Publication date

The Algorytm Platform team recently participated in Beyond 2024, a premier global conference for the creative industries, held in MediaCity, Manchester, UK, from November 25–27, 2024.

The event brought together business leaders, artists, researchers, policymakers, and investors from around the world to explore the intersection of creativity and innovation in urban development.

Ukrainian Delegation at Beyond 2024

The participation of the Ukrainian delegation, including the Algorytm Platform team, was made possible with support from the British Council. The Council facilitated the involvement of 38 delegates from 17 countries. Representing Algorytm Platform at the event were Ella Yatsuta, Head of the Organization, along with Kateryna Bokhynska, Head of Communications, and the leader of the Abo Abo Creative Industries Development Center.

The presence of Ukrainian delegation at Beyond 2024 served as a platform to showcase Ukraine’s experience in creative industries, contribute to international dialogue, and establish potential partnerships for future cultural and urban development initiatives.

Learning from Manchester: A Case Study in Creative Growth

The story of Manchester’s MediaCity served as a source of inspiration. In 2007, the BBC embarked on a decentralization initiative, relocating part of its oorganization from London to Salford, Manchester. This decision catalyzed the construction of MediaCityUK, which officially opened in 2011.

“The BBC’s relocation to MediaCity created over 2,500 jobs and generated an economic impact of £277 million within just one year,” shared Tatiana Zubryk, a team member from Algorytm Platform.

The presence of the BBC transformed MediaCityUK into a hub for creativity, attracting major organizations such as ITV and Ericsson, while supporting over 7,000 jobs on-site and fostering more than 150 small and medium-sized businesses.

This relocation also contributed to the decentralization of the UK’s media industry, reducing the concentration of creative jobs in London and driving economic growth nationwide. Since 2010, the region's economy has grown by an impressive 49%.

“This is a compelling example of how the creative industries can directly influence city development,” added Zubryk.

Building a Creative Hub in Lutsk

Inspired by global success stories like MediaCityUK, Algorytm Platform is actively working on establishing the Abo Abo Creative Industries Development Center in Lutsk, Ukraine. This innovative space will merge culture, business, and creative industries to foster collaboration and innovation. The synergy created by this initiative aims to catalyze the development of new products and projects, driving growth in Ukraine’s cultural and urban landscape.

Shaping the Future

The participation of Algorytm Platform in Beyond 2024 highlights the organization’s commitment to driving transformative change in Ukraine’s creative industries. By engaging with global leaders and learning from international best practices, Algorytm Platform is setting the stage for sustainable and impactful urban development initiatives in Ukraine.
