"Place Manufactory" is an open space in the heart of Lutsk, designed for relaxation, meetings, and events. This location brings the community together around important social topics and supports creative, cultural, educational, and environmental initiatives.
This location is at 28 Bohdana Khmelnytskoho Street, next to misto.cafe social impact café and the Diia.Business entrepreneur support center in Lutsk.
Where did the idea come from?
The driving force for the establishment of "Place Manufactory" came from the concept for developing Lutsk's city center, based on the findings of the comprehensive urban study of Urban Vision Lutsk. According to this vision, there's a need in the city to establish high-quality public spaces and locations for communication and community development.
What are we doing this for?
The project's goal is to co-create a space that will become a platform for social interaction.
"The name "Place Manufactory" embodies the very essence of this space. Here, people craft their place through ideas, actions, and care. And the place, in turn, influences people — through the atmosphere, opportunities, and power of community,”
Project objectives:
- to create a space that enhances urban infrastructure and improves residents' quality of life;
- to form and strengthen communities through meaningful interactions, and the exchange of ideas and experiences;
- to provide Lutsk residents with a high-quality venue for public events, workshops, lectures, exhibitions, and training sessions;
- to promote the concept of open design and high-quality tactical interventions that can positively impact the surrounding space.
Who is this space for?
"Place Manufactory" is open to everyone. Residents of Lutsk are welcome to come here to relax with friends or play board games, as well as to bring their ideas to life and plan events. To organize an event, simply join the project's Telegram channel, familiarize yourself with the space's rules, select an available date on the calendar, coordinate the details with the project manager, and book the location.
"This space will be filled with meaning by the people who consider it their own, who will use it, and who will develop it according to their own needs and capabilities. This is precisely how places and communities should grow: organically," explains Andrii Batin, the project's ideologue.
What does the space look like?
"Place Manufactory" is made up of seven modules connected into an octagon, forming a holistic yet mobile space. It was designed with the needs of the community in mind, after a series of discussions with non-governmental organizations and active city residents.
The structures can be scaled, extended, and separated from each other. They have multi-level seating that can serve as an improvised amphitheater.
The space will operate for one to two warm seasons, after which the structures can be relocated to other parts of Lutsk — or even to other cities or towns.
The team is ready to share the structural drawings with anyone who wants to implement a similar initiative in another city or village.
The project is being implemented by the “Action Algorithm” platform as part of the Urban Vision Lutsk program, in collaboration with misto.cafe. The author of the idea is designer and urbanist Andrii Batin, the design engineer is Oleksandr Liapin.
For information, the Urban Vision Lutsk program is a strategic initiative focused on transforming Lutsk's urban environment. The program initiates research and concept development, engages in public awareness and urban education, implements infrastructure projects, and supports partner urban initiatives. It's carried out by Algorytm NGO.
