A year ago, the "Zerno" ("Grain") sculpture was unveiled in Lutsk. The sculpture has become a city landmark. The square where it stands is now a vibrant space for events and paplic gatherings.
The sculpture raises funds for demining Ukraine in partnership with the Come Back Alive foundation. Over the past year, it has helped collect over 420,000 UAH, which was used to purchase 14 metal detectors for sapper teams.
Why is Zerno raising funds for demining?
Initiated by the Algorytm platform "Zerno" was installed in a new square at the corner of Lesya Ukrainka and Kryvyi Val Streets. The sculpture was created by the GAZ art group before the full-scale invasion. It was designed to represent rebirth.
Bringing the city's heart to life
The square has become a popular place for young people. It's also used for city events, from Olympic Games fan zones to live performances.
At every event, organisers ask people to donate.
Over 420,000 UAH raised for demining equipment
In just one year, "Zerno" helped raise more than 420,000 UAH. These funds were used to buy 14 GaussMD metal detectors, which help clear mines from Ukrainian land.
But there is still a long way to go. Ukraine's Ministry of Defence says that 128,000 square kilometres of Ukrainian land is still contaminated with mines. There is a huge need for sapper equipment and this will continue for years. That's why the fundraising effort is ongoing and everyone is invited to join this important cause.
How can you help?
You can donate in three ways:
- Visit the Zerno website and donate.
- Scan the QR-code near the sculpture to make a donation.
- Spread the word! Take a photo with "Zerno" and share it on social media to help support demining efforts.
Together, we can help Ukraine's land and make it safer.
